i have healthy thick dark brunette hair. i want to dye it pink...but i dont think it will show up with out bleaching it first...how damaging is bleaching? is there another way that you know of?
Hair dying advice?
i wouldn't color it ALL pink because that would be too damaging..., and I would definitely go to a professional to get it done.
You will definitely have to pre-lighten before putting the pink on. Or there are some formulas that do it all in one step-- lighten the hair and deposit the pink into the hair in less time than doing two steps.

Oh, if you have the nerve to do it...and can afford the professional you really should have...I think you should do it! I think it would be great fun, and a real show-stopper.
But, then, I'm a professional artist, and adore explosive and exciting use of color!

hmm. I am the experts of bleaching my hair and burning it off. Be very very very careful when it comes to bleach. have a friend around. I remember i bleached my hair put some foil paper on it and Bam... left it on too long... my long hair was short ... my hair was like GUm it was just ..awful! I found out that that clairol bleach and an activator works really well!!! Just be careful.. be prepared .. and please please condition your hair after you bleach it. Your hair is going to be all weird and grass like.. i don' t know mine was :D

I have naturally black hair and I've been bleaching and dyeing it colors for years. Bleach is not damaging if you follow the directions exactly. Just make sure you watch your hair's lightening progress closely and wash your hair as soon as it gets to the yellow stage. I would recommend trying a strip of your hair first to see how you like it. Make sure you get a deep conditioner and use it often and try not to wash your hair everyday of you can help it.
Also remember that bleach doesn't wash out, it has to grow out so if you have long beautiful hair that you don't want to potentially hurt, get some extensions or clippy things instead. :) I hope that helps!! Let me know if you decide to do it and I can recommend some products to keep your hair healthy. :)

A matter of fact I went from natural, black, waist black hair to shoulder length pink. I used to different deep conditioners in my hair for 3 days, and used Caliyun bleach lightner. It made my hair go from black to a light light brown. Then I dyed it pink. It worked perfectly!
Hair dying advice?
Even when done by a pro, bleaching is extremely damaging to hair. I had hair like yours. I put in blonde streaks, and it looked great! -- until it broke off. No other way I know of that works and looks good. Believe me, it will completely spoil the texture of your hair. Pink hair is definitely cool, but my advice is, don't do it.
Hair dying advice?
I feel it is not advisable to dye the hair. It will spoil its natural sheen and beauty. Using artificial dyers is not good in the long run also. But still if you want to have it done, better go to a professional beautician and do. Think many times before going for it.

what on earth are you thinking?
Any chemical process is damaging to your hair,Bleach is the only way to even start to Pink.
Even if you do go to a professional(which I am) and get your hair done the up keep will cost you a fortune and if you want to change it back after you bleach it and put a color on to go back to your natural color it will never hold the color it will fade and you will have to cut it off or just keep coloring the ends untill you get it all off,it will never feel like the natural hair .
Please think about this and talk to the professionals before you do this because once you do it going back is not as easy as just puting a color back and staying Pink will be costly.
