Lemon Juice? A natural way to lighten hair?

I heard from somewhere that you can naturally lighten a person's haircolor by soaking their hair in lemon juice or white vinegar then exposing it to natural sun light? Is this true? If so, is it a healthy way to lighten my hair color or will it damage my hair? And if not, is there other ways to naturally lighten my haircolor. My hair not jet-black but it's not dark brown either and I'd really want it to be a shade lighter of dark brown.

i think it is more for people with blonde hair to make it lighter

lemon is not natural it contains bleech wich damages your hair. in order to go lighter you have to use some sort of bleech

hope this helps

lemon juice is not permanent so if you wanna use it, remember to wash it off by the end of the day or it will get sticky.

i think your hair colour is too dark for this to take effect on you.

but it's true lemon juice does lighten your hair when exposed to natural sunlight.

but if you do it too often it will make your hair all stringy and dry. some hair colouring techniques aren't so bad for your hair anymore. but if your hair really is very dark you might have to bleach it first which you should NEVER do. if you don't bleach dark hair before lightening it you won't notice any colour change.

theres actually a product called sunsilk highlights which is a foamy mousse you put in your hair after every wash and it slowly lightens your hair. i have very dark brown hair and it worked for me. but i'm in australia and i don't know if that product is available where you are. it's a good product because it also allows you to control how light your hair becomes. it happens gradually with each application, but for me it was worth it because i would never consider bleaching my hair.

good luck!

i also heard that from a friend... it can lighten your hair but take note it can also damage your hair.. it doesnt look good... its kinda dry... *sigh

it is not good for your hair as it will dry the crap out of it.

I've done this before. It only works on people with blonde, medium brown, or some kinds of red hair though. You don't want to soak the hair in lemon juice. It's best to put it in a spritz bottle, spray the top lightly, then go outside. I didn't notice bad drying effects, but then, I use a good conditioner.

Basically the lemon juice speeds up the natural process of lightening that the sun does to some hair, anyway. If the sun by itself doesnt lighten your hair, adding lemon juice won't help.

lemon juice will lighten only blonde hair. it will not lighten your natural hair colour or tinted hair colour. the only way you will be able to lighten it is by going to a hairdresser because if you do it your self at home it my go a yellow or orange colour or if you have tint already in your hair it will not work. but the lemon juice is a good way of getting rid of green in your hair caused from chlorine pools

A couple of my friends have tried this and said it works. They either already had natural highlights, blonde or strawerry blonde hair though. However it does also dry out your hair and i think can make it greasy. It's probably better than dying it though but talk to a hairdresser.
