Do you think that's a lazy way of caring for the child's hair? 3 is pretty young. Don't you think? %26amp; that's damaging to the hair texture %26amp; torturing because of the chemical burns. Plus the kids' hair falls out. My former foster mom used to have our hair permed, %26amp; we used to hide in the bathroom because we were afraid of the chemical burns. %26amp; the teachers would report her to CPS, %26amp; she'd get mad @ US! She had me think ALL my life that my hair was SO nappy! Now I realize that I grow my hair natural now, %26amp; my hair is soft, silky %26amp; wavy %26amp; sort of thick. All I have to do is wash my hair %26amp; put gel in it, %26amp; people chase me down, asking how I get my hair so wavy. Now my hair is healthier %26amp; growing faster %26amp; longer with less breakage.
Now, my twin sister has a 4-yr. old child with the microcephaly disease (similar to Down's Syndrome), %26amp; I'm SO upset that she put her baby through that discopmfort. I know that's her kid %26amp; not mine, but still.

People do that because they are a HOT GHETTO MESS. There are hair products out there that are made specifically for kids of color to where their hair is manageable and keeps people from having to apply perms to their babies. If a perm is applied correctly it won't burn, but no matter how you apply a perm to a child that age, IT'S GONNA BURN because their scalps are way more sensitive than a grown up's. I FEEL YOUR FRUSTRATION!!!

I'll start by saying that i used to have natural hair for four years relaxed 2 years ago and i regret deeply. Natural hair is freedom, no running from rain, not worrying about the shower cap or swimming. As far as the kids, i think people have the rule of thumb with this which is if you think your kids hair is "nappy" you tolerate it as long as you can then you perm it. Its ridiculous in our society what we consider "nappy" and the amount of credence we give "good" hair. The question we should ask our selves is what constitutes good vs nappy. Secondly, the medical effects are obvious especially in the case of 3 and 4 year olds, but what about what we are teaching our children, these are the long term effects that many don't consider and should. I too grew up thinking I had "nappy" hair, but when I went natural I discovered this not to be so! So in the word's of Bob Marley "Tell the children the truth". Teach your kids to be proud of the kink!
